Wallace
Trophy 2007..results
As
spring sailing goes, this was Bloooming
Marvellous!! The most fabulous Easter weekend in the best harbour
in the world! Light to medium breezes, clear blue skies, all 6
races completed and
top
racing
through the whole fleet. 14 boats out on Saturday
and 20 boats made an appearance over the whole weekend with four
(and nearly five) different
winners in 6 races, and 10 different boats in the top 3 spots...
And
the winner is...(subject to confirmation from our scorer) and Wallace
Trophy
champion for 2007 is....Martyn Jones with wifty Clare and
Clare Senior with two
1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd. Big round of applause...
Friday Race
1: saw a small fleet of 3 take on the fickle breeze with Ronnie
sneaking home just in front of George Yeoman with almost the last
puff of
the
day..at least that's how it felt!
Steve
and
Olivier Davies
taking
a determined 3rd.
Saturday, A
fantastic turnout of 14 boats. It started windless, but enough
breeze appeared down Itchenor reach to have two club line starts
up to
Wear and
back.
Race
2: Hugo and Olwen Fisher hooked onto an early
puff and disappeared out in front only for Prof to use up most
of his grey matter and get the win by the smallest of margins
right on the line.
Race
3: Martyn Jones got into top gear and secured his first win with Clare
Senior followed by Chris & Helen. Most notable achievement
going to new team Clive Mann with son Alexander in their second
race
ever in "...and all That"
finishing 5th!
Huge
thanks to Chris& Clare Blevins in accommodating us on the
unscheduled club line start.
Sunday:
Looked more promising and turned out to be the best
day of the weekend. More sun and a steady F2-3, 11 boats out
and two committee boat starts.
Race
4: David
Patient sprang out of the blocks in his first
race of the
season to get a 2nd with Clare Senior on board with Martyn
& Clare getting his second win. Young Jack Yeoman (14) in his
first 200 outing was looking comfortably fast until a pack of boats
all
descended
at
different
angles
to round Itchenor and nabbed his water....steady on there chaps.
Race
5 was Andy and Sarah Fitz's after a poor race 4, they stretched
away up the first beat never to be seen again.
Monday: A
good long race of a couple of laps between Wear and Ellanore for
the 10 boats. Short tacking up against the tide with duels taking
place all the
way
down the fleet but it was Phil and Lucy Ford in 223 with their
afterburners on, blowing the whole fleet away
up
the
first
beat.
It's not often
we see "Still No Idea" being left for dust. Very impressive!
Unfortunately a lack of downwind speed
was
their undoing and Andy and Sarah slipped into the lead, then
kept ahead of the snapping "Ronnie" and "Impulse" up
the second beat, going onto win by a minute from 2nd place "Ronnie".
Good to see Harry and Prue out for
the first
time in their new old boat as
they posted
a 4th a whisker away from Phil and Lucy.
Next
big day is training day on the 28th with Ian Pickard, 200 dinner
at the club that evening and Chi Harbour Series on the Sunday hosted
by
Bosham.
