Ronnie Hits the Jackpot!
Datchet SC, Fat Face Open: 20-21 Oct 07
41 boats, 1-7knots

Richard Neall & Sara Terry win their first, and the final Fat Face RS200 Open of the season at Datchet Water SC….thanks not only to some silky sailing skills of course :-) but also to some serious lack of wind, only 2 of the usual 6 races were run, an uncharacteristic performance in race 2 by the God Roger Gilbert, and others and a whole heap of other useful things! Feelin’ good?....You Bet!!!..more

RS200 Inland Championships 2007 –Grafham Water SC

Spectacular from Andrew Shaw.
In a light wind one day event (Sunday was cancelled), Andy Shaw in his first RS200 national event hit the water running finishing a very impressive 13th out of 88 boats. He finished on equal points with 10th place and just one point off of 6th! Awesome. Crewed by 2004 National champion and 2000 Inlands champion Lee Sydenham this was a weekend of learning for Andy from one of the countries top dinghy sailors. Job done! Looking forward to seeing his results when he's carrying 4 stone less in the bow!!!
Team Ronnie were 27th, improving 26 places on last years event -lets hope the trend continues next year! with a best result of 3rd in race 2…
Unfortunately Harry and Prue were knocked off their stride in race 1 with some race committee starting anomalies, were blacked flagged, given redress but never got out of the blocks, finishing 47th. Patch Fillery and Sarah Skerton were 53rd.

Thurs 4 Oct

RS200 Youth Championships
More Congratulations to one of our top sailors George Yeoman who finished an excellent 2nd in the 31 boat fleet at Northampton behind Sam Littlejohn (who was top youth at the Nationals in 14th). Only one day raced as there was no wind on Sunday. Well done George! See the Results link here

Thurs 4 Oct

Autumn Trophy 2007 Kicks Off
Awesome start by Pip Tagg and Helen Williams who stormed away to clinch both races on Sunday, and Prof and Kate who won the inaugural back to back Beer Stop race on Saturday. A format championed by Julian Hantrais and David Patient and kindly supported by the BRO and rescue boat crews involving a race up to Dell Quay…a pint…and race back to the club. Unfortunately the wind died completely so the drink never happened allowing for only one race. Anyway it’s David Patient who leads the charge in the Autumn Trophy overall, with 3rds in every race. See Results here

Prize Giving Dinner
And a very lively and marvellous evening it was too, shared with our friends in the 14 class which resulted in a superb atmosphere to bid a fond farewell to the old faithful dining room and kitchen. Thanks to all the staff -including Katie Nurton who made a very very good waitress indeed!
Congratulations to all the prize winners, especially so to the much coveted Best Capsizing team who promptly went a got a 2nd behind Pip on Sunday! The winners were….click here

Mon 24 Sept

Top Weekend!
A cracking weekends racing. 13 boats out on Sunday with Rory/Scotty (after some serious boat bimbling by Rory) and Susie Upton Brown/ Sarah Macfarlane both hitting form with results way above their averages. Great stuff! Andy Shaw, 854, came out on top at the front of the fleet in Sunday’s 2 races with competition from Andy and Sarah Fitz and Team Ronnie who didn’t quite have the downwind pace to hold off Andy and his sister!

Tues 11 Sept

Chichester Harbour Series -ISC- Sunday 9 Sept

Results here

A great turn out of 17 boats (all but one from Itchenor) rocked up to do battle with a light northerly wind, tide and approaching sea breeze. Slightly reminiscent of Bosham's day in April! Big guns Fitzgerald, Yeoman, Fox, Darling, Fisher, Masding and Shaw all out of bed early for the 3 windward leeward races. After a slow start (7th) it was George Yeoman who came out on top with two 1sts counting ahead of a very consistent Prof who was 2nd in every race and Chris Darling in 3rd sneaking ahead of Fitzgerald by virtue of a win in the first race. 4 points separating the top 4 boats. Fantastic! Thanks as always to top PRO Nigel Pattison and team for calling the shots.

Thurs 5 Sept

Nationals 07, Tenby YC -A few headlines from the event

First, hearty congratulations to our friends Roger Gilbert and Jane Willan for achieving a great series of races and an emphatic victory in the 127 boat fleet collecting just 9 points in 8 races…27 points ahead of 2nd place…awesome! And just to demonstrate the brilliance of Roger he came to the event having just won the Merlin nationals (79 boats) with a day to spare and also claimed top spot in his Merlin in the notoriously difficult Salcombe Week (100 boat fleet)….less than a year from getting his boat….truly amazing.

Other top teams we know: Lee Sydneham finished 5th with nothing lower than an 11th in 10 races. Top coach Ian Pickard was 9th with two 2nds a 3rd and a 4th.

George Yeoman & Georgie Akin-Smith 33rd. 4th Silver and 1st junior. 17th in race 3
Rob Strucket & Eloise Hanson 40th. 1st Bronze. 8th in race 2
Richard Neall & Sara Terry 53rd. 1st in “Buddy Competition”! 19th in race 6
Gordon Young & Clare Marriage 73rd.
Patch Fillery & Sarah Skerton 75th. 38th in race 10
David Leach & Caroline Mariage 82nd. 38th in race 6

A few ramblings of my own coming soon....

Wed 5 Sept

Last Sunday’s racing
Well done to on fire Hugo and Olwen who banged in two more bullets coming home in front of last years top team Andy and Ed Fitzgerald and 6 other boats!

Wed 5 Sept

Match Racing News
Good effort by our boys Andrew Shaw, George Yeoman and crew in the RYA J
unior Match Racing finals down in Weymouth the other weekend, finishing 2nd. By all accounts they were dominant throughout, but their defence of the title they won last year was scuppered by a severe riding turn which took took them into a difficult place….

Sat 1 Sept

Gieve Cup 07

Want some silverware??!

13 boats are still in with a shout for the Gieve Cup...Check out the current standings here

Tues 28 Aug

August Bank Holiday Trophy

19 boats out in all and yet another new trophy winner this weekend! Congratulations to Prof for achieving two 1sts and a 2nd to win this weekends pot. 2nd were Nigel and Anita, with Susie and Sarah in 3rd sneeking in in front of Clive and Alex Mann who gracefully retired after winning a real nip and tuck race on Monday afternoon between the Masdings and Team Ronnie, but realised they had infringed earlier in the race. Goddam good race though! See the results Here

Tues 28 Aug

Local Regattas

Itchenor took all top 3 places at Bosham regatta. Congratulations to Hugo and Olwen Fisher for winning. Chris Fox 2nd and Mark Timberlake 3rd. Results here
Well done to Chris Darling for winning his own trophy at Itchenor, for the 2nd time in 3 years….
Harry and Prue were top Itchenor 200 at Fed Week, 4th in the 60 boat fleet 4 points ahead of Martyn and Clare Jones in 8th. 10 Itchenor boats competed in an eventful week full of wind and incident. Full results here
Richard Neall & Sara Terry were first Itchenor boat and 4th overall in the HISC regatta, Nigel and Anita Masding weren’t far behind but I assume they didn’t sign off as they’re not listed in the results and Clare Jones was in Funny Feet and finished 13th. 24 boats out. Our friend Lee Sydneham won! Results here

Thurs 16 Aug

Chichester Harbour Series
Remember we are hosting the Harbour Series on Sunday 9th September. 3 back to back windward leeward courses!!

Tues 14 Aug

Cowes Week 2007
Yet more congratulations to Harry & Prue Roome! They They only went and won their 2nd Cowes Week on the trot, winning the Swallow title in “Skua” by 8 points with three 1sts and two 2nds… Hopefully Harry will be asked to compete in the King of Cowes next year…

Chris Darling after having had his boat tuned up by his new best mate Glen Bourke –and as it turned out 2007 SB3 Cowes Week Champion- finished a fantastic 11th in the 95 boat fleet to continue his good form from last year. In one race "Darling Associates" lead the fleet at the first mark and had a 6th and a 7th as his best results. Marvellous!!

Special mention and very well done to George Yeoman who won best youth in the SB3’s, after starting the week crewing for 2006 SB3 winner Russell Peters.

Bully racing in his XOD “Lass” and first Cowes in that fleet was an excellent 10th in the 71 boat fleet and claiming top spot on the Sunday and 3 top 10 positions!

Richard Neall skippering the T&W Civil Engineering Sunfast 37 in the 67 Sunsail fleet came within a whisker of winning the overall title except for a dying sea breeze on Thursday leaving the team wallowing in a hole as the front of the fleet sailed passed after gaining a commanding lead in that race…..a brutal end to the week and had to settle with 5th overall, 5 points separating the top 5 boats.

Mon 30 July

Welcome!

A warm welcome to two more RS200’s on to the ISC stage. First up…Rob Strucket ,1229, new to 200’s but comes with an impressive record in the mirrors and 420’s. Now also races a RS800. Next up…. Jeremy and Sarah Sibthorp are sharing with Jason Merron. Also new to the 200 but Int 14 and Laser 4000 sailors, so more cunning tricks tucked away in their heads than...a cunning thing….

Mon 30 July

Fabulous racing this weekend.
Saturday: Ronnie took on Rory & Scotty on a pretty blustery wind against tide kinda day up round Dunes. Things were neck and neck up the first beat, but in good Wacky Races stylie, Ronnie threw out a hidden sandbank in front of the Clarkes to thwart any further progress…

Sunday: We had 8 boats out in fabulous conditions. Charles Peacock set a couple of great courses from the committee boat. A short windward leeward for race 1 which Ronnie claimed with a tight tussle for 2nd between 3 boats with Bully and Milley squeezing out in front. Race 2 went to the ever quick George Yeoman who lead pretty much from the start, though Bully and Milley gave it to him as they had to go and relieve parents from baby sitting duty after the first lap while sitting on his tail!!!

P.S. WE HAD A SHOCKING RECORD THIS WEEKEND OF BEING LATE FOR OUR COMMITTEE BOAT STARTS….WE MUST PAY MORE ATTENTION TO OUR START TIMES AND LOCATION **IT’S ALL IN THE HANDBOOK** LEAVING THE CLUB IN GOOD TIME TO GET DOWN HARBOUR….!!!

Mon 30 July

King of Cowes 2007

Chris Darling will be competing in the King of Cowes competition -see here for details- in his SB3 "Darling Associates" at Cowes this coming Friday with none other than the ABN Amro 1 Round the World Champion skipper Mike Sanderson and all round sailing God Glen Bourke -3 times Laser class World Champion, hot favourite for the 100+ SB3 fleet at Cowes this year & Volvo Ocean Race CEO.. We wish him good fortune fast sailing along with Mike Wigmore who is also competing as winner of the multihull MORCA division of Cowes 2006. Commiserations to Harry Roome, who should be racing as Swallow Cowes Week winner 2006 except won the event too easily…so didn't qualify!!

Mon 30 Jul

RS200 sailors dominate at Swallow Points Week!

Chris Darling won the Itchenor Swallows Points week last week sailing with Alastair Shaw, and Harry and Prue were 2nd. Mike Bond was 3rd. Damn good show!

Tues 17 Jul

Roome for Glory...

More glory for Itchenor RS200 sailors! Congratulations to Harry, Prue and Charlie Roome for winning the recent Swallow Nationals beating Carolyn Brigg by 3 points. Mike Wigmore was 4th and Chris Darling a little further down the field thinking about his next building project….or Cowes Week.

Tues 17 Jul

Marvellous Team Harris... :-)

Drama and a stroke of genius from Mike and Emma Harris -but mainly from Emma according to Mike- gave them their first victory in the 200 fleet after only 8 outings! After cunningly letting the whole fleet get to the first windward mark ahead of them and sail the wrong way round, Emma was convinced it should be left to Starboard…or was it port…anyway they got it right…..It wasn’t till the end of the race the matter was gingerly raised whereupon everyone retired leaving 1250 “Spoof” with their first win. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Tues 26 June

STOP PRESS...!

Latest on the news wire...Hayley Pattison (627 Captain Bligh) also won on Sunday's 2nd race. The BRO sent the fleet of 2 200's and a 420 on different courses. 3 winners in one race... Awesome!!! Any volunteers to let Ian know he needs to enter two 1st in the results.... :-/

Mon 25 June

Congratulations....

to Itchenor RS200 sailor Douglas Pattison (627 Captain Bligh) who has just won the International 14 Europeans at Pornac, Brittany, last week. Fantastic!

Mon 25 June

Hantrais/Masding Glory

On Saturday, Julian and Clare Hantrais claimed top spot from Mark Timberlake and Louise Purchase after the whole swallow fleet descended on "Outburst" during a mark rounding and taking him out of contention. Julian & Clare, not to miss a trick, pounced, grabbed the lead and stormed away to victory...

David Patient in the meantime was still winning...This time with Mike Wigmore in his new swallow

Sunday's weather was grizzly to say the least. Nigel & Anita Masding winning both races with style and true grit...!

Mon 25 June

Bexhill SEAS Open

Team Ronnie and Patch Fillery (593) took off to Bexhill on Sunday to practice in the waves. It was wet windy grey wet and wet. 4th in the first race got Ronnie off to a fine start, but a gybing capsize in race 2 halted all ambitions of consistent results. Good upwind speed, rubbish downwind and trying to tack over a big wave in race 4...yes capsizing...soon after the start justified our visit to practice in waves!... More please :-)

Sun 17 June

CYC Regatta...Results here

More ISC RS200 success on Sunday at CYC with George Yeoman & Georgie Akin-Smith, 1106, coming home 1st in the fast handicap division with Richard Neall & Lucy Davies, 486, finishing 2nd . Caroline and Clare Marriage gained some more valuable Chichester Harbour knowledge in the perfect conditions and Richard and Ollie Smyth were last heard talking about attaching a Yamaha outboard engine to Red Oktober....And we all enjoyed the marvellous tea!

Sun 17 June

Patient Power at DQSC regatta...Results here

Stokes Bay Open News

At last weekends glorious Fat Face Open, Harry & Prue Roome finished a really impressive 13th overall in the 60 boat fleet, reaching the top mark on two occassions in 3rd...awesome! The Maestro Roger Gilbert & Jane Willan won. RESULTS here

Mon 29 May

Spring Bank Holiday Trophy Results

Mixed weekend of weather. The highlight being Sundays racing in the rain! Praise to RO Hugo and Olwen Fisher and rescue boat drivers doing a sterling duty in the cold, rain and most awkward of wind directions. 10 boats out and 4 race leaders "Ronnie", Andrew Shaw, Prof & George Yeoman, by the time the fleet had gone up to Lowles and back to Park, with Richard Neall & Sara Terry finding a magical eddy on Cobnor point to catapult them from right underneath the Shaw bow and out across Bosham channel and out infront to win on the club line!

Glyn Charles 07.

Garda comes to Sussex!! What an amazing, AMAZING day in Chichester Harbour. 139 boats and 18 RS200's with 5 from Itchenor -that's including Patch!- making it up to Hayling to experience 2 hours of exhilarating sailing. Sun out, wind blowing a solid F6 out of the South West, waves rolling in over the Winner bank and across to Pilsey, and a full on 3 sail reach from HISC down to Channel, across to East Head then down to Park...Yeeeharrrrr :-)) LOADS of pics from Steve Arkley at SailShots.co.uk and Lucy Jameson at AroundtheCans.co.uk

updated...Shoreham RS200 Open Results & Report here

Yet another awesome performance by 1219 Roger Gilbert and Jane Willan winning at this weekends windy open at Shoreham with a smaller than normal fleet of 29. Our new friend and coach Ian Pickard was 2nd, Martyn and Clare Jones were well up there with a 6th and a 7th in the first 2 races before calling it a day, and your class captain finished 11th overall and 2nd Silver fleet boat with new Itchenor crew Lucy Davies. Racing was eventually abandoned on Saturday before the first start in absolute extreme conditions...even the buoys were dragging their anchors...no surprise really!!! Sunday was still on the fresh side (top end of F6) with some exciting downwind legs...and err yes some capsizes!

Thurs 10 May

Tail End Trophy Results here

And Congratulations to the new Tail End Trophy champions Mark & Annabel Timberlake in 681 "Outburst" who paced themselves magnificently! Commiserations and honourable mention to David Leach who just failed to win on countback and due to a pesky capsize while leading the second race on Sunday. Oh cruel world!

Tues 8 May

Tail End Trophy

Results not out yet...With Monday's racing abandoned due to strong winds, only 3 races were sailed in the series. And it looks like a tight finish! Anyway, congratulations to young Ed Fitzgerald helming his first ever RS200 race and hanging on for a well deserved win in Saturdays race. With only Ronnie making a bigger hash of the start, Ed from (almost) the back of the 8 boat fleet made it to the front before the long run home from Dunes against the ebb tide with Andrew Shaw making the best run in from Park almost catching Ed on the line. Thanks to Roddy Bridge and his team for running the racing.

Fri 4 May

Tail End Trophy this weekend. 3 from 5 races to count. Small error in club handbook for Saturday racing, only 1 race, not 2 as indicated.

Committee boats starts: Sat x1 14.50hrs; Sun x2 11.20hrs; Mon x2 11.00hrs

Wed 2 May

Bosham Harbour Series -29 April  results here

A splendid turnout of 19 boats with 14 from Itchenor! Wily young guns Harry & Prue came out on top after a challenging day of light winds and surprisingly strong tide which was catching out even the very best of them. Race 1 belonged to "Ronnie" after selecting the Pilsey shore after the start. Race 2 was Chris Darling/Helen Williams's right up to the last leeward mark where with the wind dropping and tide in full ebb, 4 boats were sudenly in contention. "Rough Sleeper", "Funny Feet", "Ronnie" and the new old boat of Harry and Prue all having a right royal ding dong. But it was the Roomes squirting out in front and over the line in the last breath of air that clinched it. "Rough Sleeper was the next closest to the line, about 12 inches away, before everyone slipped back and back...and back....with the race committee deciding places after everyone was timed out. Race 3 with the new wind arrived, Harry and Prue along with Patch Fillery/Clare Jones both got away to claim 1st and 2nd with Chris & Helen making up from doing penelty turns at the start to get 3rd. Phil and Lucy Ford making up terrific ground in the last lap to get 4th...Huge thanks to the whole Bosham team for all their efforts and tows home!

NEW CREW!

I am pleased, no, delighted to announce to the class that Thomas Scott Albert Clarke, is the newest name on the ISC RS200 crew list. Weighing in at 6lbs 8oz he will be especially useful in light winds, and in heavier air he can easily be strapped to Mum's back. Congratulations to new parents Rory and Scotty :-) Thomas was born on 13th March. Mum and baby well...and awake a lot!

Tues 10 April

CYC Snowflake: Congratulations to everyone who competed in the recently completed CYC Snowflake series. First ISC RS200 and 12th overall was Andy Fitz, Still No Idea, crewed by Jeremy Sibthorp who clearly has. George Yeoman and Rachael Williamson were competing hard with Fitz/Sibthorp the times they were out. Phill and Lucy Ford always in the top half and a fine 8th out of 26th early on. And Andrew Shaw with Will Smyth appearing in the last race and pushing the Yeoman and Fitz boats with a 10th.

A great event. 18 different classes in the fast handicap and an average of 25 boats per race.
