Rankings Explained! back to table

Firstly, I think it's worth remembering that the purpose of this 'ere ranking system is primarily to see how we are all competing against each other as a fleet, in as fair a way as possible, to show improvements (or otherwise), encourage friendly rivalry and be in a position to reward crews who are competing just as hard as the guys at the front, but don't traditionally get the chocolates to show for all the falling over, messed up spinnakers, forgetting buoys, capsises, and general frustrations of not quite having a perfect day! I know the feeling very well and also of wondering how and what it is the fast guys are doing differently...

As you know several boats have two drivers and to distinguish between the two over a whole season will be difficult, I'm not sure what the answer is, but I hope everyone will take the rankings in the spirit that they are intended.

Other (very good) reasons are to encourage people to improve their sailing individually, create an environment where people can ask the fast guys (& know who they are) for advice and that they share their knowledge...this in turn will improve everybody and the closer the racing, the more fun it is for all and the standard of the whole fleet improves. A most excellent state of affairs.

So this is how you have ended up in your fleet position, and the same rules will apply for 2007...

RULES:  Your "Season's Points" score (which the rankings are based on) is the average percentage of your finish position, in every race you sailed in through the season which had 4 or more boats in...this avoids getting unduly penalised in small fleets.

RTD's, OCS's and DNF's do not count towards your final score, and your worst score is discarded after ten races, then 2 after 20, 3 after 30 etc.

Gold fleet have scores less than 50. Silver fleet have scores less than 75, and Bronze fleet take up the remaining positions.

YOU WILL ONLY BE ELIGIBLE FOR PRIZES ONCE YOU HAVE SAILED MORE THAN 10 RACES.

I'll enter new recruits to the system once they have completed 10 races.

I expect to show ongoing results probably every 4-6 weeks.

PRIZES:  Subject to the prize fund, the winners of the silver and bronze fleets will be in line for something. Plus the most improved (probably a bit subjective so the judges decision will be final!), best newcomer and any other categories I can think of on the day :-)
